Don't Press Generate

How GORO directs a film with AI

The approach behind the keynote and workshop he gives with Stéphane Benini, in their own words where we have them[13][2].

  1. 01 Ask the question When an image can be generated in seconds, what is left of the director's job? He opens his talks with it[4]. The talk
  2. 02 Write the brief A creative brief for AI: what you write, what you show and what you refuse[13]. The brief
  3. 03 Pick the pipeline Each film is full AI, hybrid (live action, VFX, 3D and AI) or CGI, and labelled that way[3][14]. Live action, VFX, 3D, AI
  4. 04 Direct through the prompt Tone, light, movement and rhythm, directed rather than left to chance[13]. Google Flow, Kling, Dreamina
  5. 05 Control everything Concept, tone, rhythm, character direction and colour: nothing left to the randomness of generation[14]. Magnific and the edit
  6. 06 Amplify, don't replace AI doesn't replace the filmmaker. It amplifies[4]. The director

"AI is the new brush, not the new painter"[12].

07Biography

The Bruno Detante story

Twenty years of people who give everything

Bruno Detante made his name in documentary. His site says he has directed more than 300 documentaries and branded films for French and international television, broadcast in 70 countries[2]; GORO adds Arte, HBO Max and Eurosport to the channels he has worked for[13]. In 2017 the Brest newspaper Le Télégramme profiled him as a director all-in on extreme sports[27].

His best-known series, Au cœur de l'extrême, ran for three seasons and 83 episodes of 26 minutes on MCS Extreme, SFR Sport and RMC Sport: surf trips, freeride, BMX and ice climbing, distributed in 70 countries[2]. Its episodes still make up most of his YouTube channel, which has been watched about 428,000 times[25]. He also produced and directed Le Mag E-Sport for SFR Sport, and he still directs five to ten endurance-sport films a year for Activ'images, including IRONMAN France and Embrunman[2][3].

Twenty years filming people who give everything. That's the school that taught me what AI cannot replace: knowing when to press the shutter.

Bruno Detante[1]

From documentary to AI

He calls himself an early adopter of generative video, and builds hybrid pipelines that mix live action, VFX, 3D and AI, treating them all as tools in service of one thing: the image and the story[2]. His site describes him as the artistic and technical lead on all of GORO's productions[2]. His X bio lists him in the creative partner programmes of Dreamina, Kling and Magnific, and as a member of the Paris collective Prompt Club[28].

GORO, a directing duo

He co-founded the creative AI studio GORO with Stéphane Benini[2][12]. The production company Bangger represents them as the directing duo GORO, and GORO's own description of how they work is that the two "co-direct AI productions"[29][13]. Their keynote and workshop, Don't Press Generate, has been given at Upscale Conf in Málaga, the Lisbon A.I Summit, E-AI in Montreal, the West Data Festival in Laval and Brest AI Days[4][13].

On AI LIVE, Chris Branch compared the pair to another duo on the show, Albert Bozesan and Robert Sladeczek[31].

Lead AI artist for the big brands

His filmography lists him as lead AI artist on the Mercedes-Benz CLA launch with will.i.am's FYI RAIDIO for Secret Level, the NFL's 2025 kickoff film for Mathematic, and a run of films with Monks for Google Pixel, GMC Hummer EV, Cadillac, Hyundai and Braun[3][20][21]. Through Wonder Studios he was lead AI artist on a film for Index Ventures, and one of eight credited AI artists on Lewis Capaldi's Something In The Heavens (Re-Imagined), with Stéphane, Billy Boman and Mark Isle[3][16]. Built with Google's Flow and Veo, that video has more than 2.1 million views[16].

On France Télévisions' film for the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Games, directed by Quentin Deronzier and finished by Mathematic, he was lead AI artist; Shots put it in its Cannes Contenders 2026 for AI and digital craft[19][18][17]. As a director in his own right he made full-AI spots for Hisense's World Cup campaign, produced by Bangger[22].

The Trident and the GEN4

Maserati: 100 Years of the Trident is the film he co-directed with Stéphane: his site lists him as director, Maserati as the client and Mathematic as producer[8][11]. Maserati published it on its own YouTube channel on 27 April 2026, a minute-long run from the first Trident at the 1926 Targa Florio to the 2026 GranTurismo, voiced by an AI voice sampled from the racing driver Maria Teresa de Filippis[9]. The film spread well beyond his own accounts: Maserati also posted it on Instagram, where the reel has been viewed more than 15.4 million times, and on TikTok, where it passed 8.1 million, which takes Maserati's own posts past 23 million views[37][38][39][40]. He and GORO file it under CGI rather than full AI[8][14]. It won Best Advertising at the SHAIKE Film Festival 2026 in La Ciotat, and his site also shows a Best Commercial laurel from the Neu Wave AI Film Festival[10][8].

In September 2026 he directed the official trailer for the Formula E Creators Challenge 2026, run by Bionic Awards with Google Cloud and Formula E, and made with Google Flow[5][6]. It puts the new GEN4 car on the streets of London and drives it all the way to London's IMAX, where finalists' films were due to screen[6]. It had its world premiere on AI LIVE Ep 131, brought in by Alex of Bionic Awards, and he later showed its behind the scenes on stage at Bionic's New Era evening in London[7][5].

He's done work for Mercedes, for the NFL. He's worked with Google before, obviously.

Alex, Bionic Awards, on AI LIVE Ep 131[7]

Car films of his own

Cars run through his own work too. He has made self-initiated films around the Renault R8 Gordini, which has its own website and a free 3D rally game, the Maserati GT2 Stradale, and the Lancia 037 in 80s Kid, which he calls a love letter to his youth[23][3][24]. Chris Branch said on AI LIVE that the pair have "the car niches locked down"[31].

La Ciotat and AI LIVE

At SHAIKE 2026 he made a one-minute Love Letter to Cinema, I love cinema, with Dreamina, and he and Stéphane sat on a panel moderated by Chris Branch[33][32][4]. On AI LIVE, his work has been on Ep 131 with the Formula E trailer, credited there as Bruno Dehant, and on Ep 133 with the Maserati film[7][31].
